Waist Aprons with Pockets

Waist Aprons with Pockets
For teachers, art or baking, these waist aprons with pockets are both fun and functional.

As a working mom, I don't have a lot of time to spend in the kitchen and I'm never going to be called a Martha-Stewart wannabe (I leave that to my mom) but I do enjoy a bit of baking throughout the year and, especially, around the holidays.

Try as I might, too, flour does fly while I'm making pies or cookies and I always end up having to change clothes when I'm done.

For years, I thought an apron would be akin to driving a minivan (another thing I've avoided) but as I've gotten older, I find I'm drawn to some of the things that I fought against most of my life - things that might cause someone to label me a (gasp) "homemaker".

But I am one.  I'm responsible for making my house a real home for may family and I want a pretty pink apron, darn it!

There have also been times I could really have benefited by having one to wear while helping my children with different art projects for school.  Glitter and paint - boy, those things can spread everywhere.

On my hunt I found several great styles that I'd love to have for myself.

While I want something pink and feminine, I don't want something too frilly.  That's what I love about this pink polka dot and black/white damask waist apron.  It has 3 separate pockets so you can hold utensils in one and put your recipe card (or cell phone - am I the only person who uses their cell phone for recipes?) in another.

The bold print is modern but still pretty.  As the front is 11 inches across and each strap is 20 inches long, this should fit up to about a size 43" waist.

Black jeans and a white t-shirt and I'd still look good making Christmas cookies this year.

A black half apron with thin tie strings - like the kind waiters wear - is a great option when you want something to protect your clothing but don't want it to grab center stage.

What I like best about this choice is that you get two in a pack instead of just one.  If you're going to be using it for work - I'm thinking art teachers, too - you'll always have one that's clean while the other is waiting to go through the wash.

If you're a parent, you'll have a second one that a child can use.  While you can't tell from the image, the three pockets on the front are all separated by a thin, barely visible seam.  You can store art supplies, pencils and pens, change, a note pad or utensils and yet keep them apart.

As much as I've said I'd love a pretty, pink apron, I think I'm really drawn to black and white. If you haven't seen them before, you need to check out the ones done by A Greener Kitchen.  They have a wider, slightly higher waistband which I think helps them stay in place and provide a better fit.

There are two, very generous pockets with one one on each side.  It's easy to slip your hand in and reach whatever you've stored inside.

There are a number of prints to choose from but I like this floral leaves design.  It's modern yet still feminine with sturdy stitching and trim.  They do run small, though, as they seem to do lots of children aprons so it's only about 11 inches long and 8 inches across but the straps are long.

Three great choices for functional waist aprons with not a frill in sight.  Enjoy!
